Kinky Kiss and Tell - Matthew Norris from Mercy by Annabel Joseph

Matthew Norris from Mercy is regularly singled out by Annabel Joseph's readers as a "Favorite Dom," while other readers revile him. We took the time to dig a little deeper into the life of this complex, polarizing dominant man.

So, why do you think some readers dislike you so much?

Dislike is probably a kind way to put it. I know people have very strong feelings about me, probably because I can be such an asshole, but I have a heart too. I'll never placate everyone, but I appreciate when people, like my beautiful partner Lucy, give me the benefit of the doubt.

What's your favorite thing about Lucy?

I don't know if I can narrow it down. Her stubbornness. Her talent. Her gracefulness. Her red-headed temper and her unbelieveable sweetness. Her forgiving nature. [laughs] That's probably the quality of hers that's my favorite, because otherwise we wouldn't still be together.

If there is something you could change about the first few weeks you knew Lucy, what would it be?

I would have been more forthcoming. More honest. I treated her very unfairly, probably very brutally in the beginning of our relationship. I guess I was testing her. In a way I wished for her to run away, to protect herself, but she never did. She's my lovely little masochist. I'm glad she stuck it out.

You first became aware of Lucy while watching her perform. What was it about her that made you finally take steps to meet her?

I don't know how to explain the way she pulled me to her. The need to have her was just really strong from the first moment I saw her. I guess in a basic sense it was the way she danced. Her movements were so fluid. She floated. Her feet seemed to barely touch the stage. I found it so compelling, and I found her so beautiful. From that fascination a fondness developed. I secretly thought of her as "my" dancer. By the time I finally approached her, I was almost out of my mind with obsession. She pushed me away at first. I think she sensed some of that craziness underneath. The problem was, once I finally hooked her, it only drove me crazier for a while.

Until you two worked out your issues?

[chuckles] Oh, we still have to work out issues. But the big issues we had at the beginning? Yes, it took a few wretched episodes to work them out. Again, her patience and stubbornness turned out to be a blessing to me.

What is your favorite sexual talent of Lucy?

I love that she's game for anything. And because I'm a sadist, I'm really glad she has a huge pain tolerance. Stubbornness again. She doesn't say "Mercy", our safeword, very often.

What would you like to come back as if you're reincarnated?

A dancer. Barysnikov or Balanchine or one of those dancer dudes my wife idolizes so much. I would like to come back as one of them so I could partner my wife in some beautiful pas de deux. That's the one thing I've always wished I could do with her, but obviously I don't have the skills. I used to be so jealous of her partners. I used to think really black thoughts about them, I'm ashamed to say.

Can't you take dance lessons?

I'm in my forties. My time for dance training has passed. Plus I'm just...well...not that graceful. Don't tell anyone.

Describe your favorite pair of shoes.

I like my shoes like I like everything else in my life. Beautiful and well-made. I've always liked Lucy's pointe shoes too, just to look at and touch. We still have boxes of them at the house. Pointe shoes are strong, supportive, and yet so delicate and pretty. Just like her.

Aww...you're quite a romantic, aren't you?

Yes, it's very possible that I am. Don't tell anyone.

  1. Thank you, Annabel,
For sharing...I have to admit I really enjoyed Odelisque (not sure I spelled that correctly) and I'm looking forward to checking this book out as well. Matthew sounds like an interesting character.

  4. How can anyone hate Matthew? Well I guess Lucy could, on occasion. Then she always melts because she knows how much he truly loves her.
